BEYOND WORDS
Bobby McFerrin smashed it at the Royal Festival Hall last week. A man who has a voacl vocabulary beyond words and the ability to create a community in a auditorium of over 6 hundred people. All with a a wordless melody that seems to have words scattered all the way through it. Don't ask me what I mean, just try and see him next time he's in your area. Richard Bona, bass extra ordinaire.

Motherless but not homeless
I gotta big up Orville for giving me the heads up on his one. This performance at Woodstock 1969 launched Richie Havens career and was hailed as the best performance at the whole event. Personally I feel its one of the best versions of this old Negro Spiritual ever. Motherless but not homeless cos he's still loved to this day.
Nuff respect Richie.

Now Dude just had it going on from dot.
I love "Hard Talk" cos it tests the tencaity of the person being interviewed. Plus it challenges their intergity, putting them on the spot and putting questions to them that i'd wanna ask, although this lady struggles with Gil cos he's a strong force to reckon with.
Gil Scott-Heron has been a huge influence in my life. He's the spokesperson for the spirit in me that finds it hard to express my frustration sometimes. Poet or no poet that i be. Ok so he's had his fair share of BS in his life and most probably dished out some but the point is when someone has a sense of articulation when it comes to lyrical word play and social documentary that is precise, eloquent and pulls no punches, then for a moment, you got to listen.
Respect where respect is due.
